Enjoy Delicious Gluten Free Diet

Are you one of the few people that are allergic to gluten? Maybe you have diabetes and need to limit your sugar intake. Whatever the case, having to block gluten in your diet can really limit your choices on the kinds of food you can eat. This is a very annoying problem but there are some great gluten free diet and dairy free solutions (more on that later).

First, let’s talk about how gluten affects people that are allergic to it. As you know, gluten is a protein component that is found in foods like barley, flour, and other grains. Because these grains are a normal part of our everyday diet, it’s very difficult to avoid gluten and it’s made harder by the fact that many people do not eat at home.

People that develop sensitivity to gluten face serious health consequences. Minor symptoms may include mood swings, sensitivity to light, loss of concentration, and stomach pain. Some of the major effects can be nerve damage, difficulty breathing and damage to the intestines.

What makes gluten problems so hard to diagnose is that the symptoms usually mimic depression. The person may feel low in energy, moody, depressed, and deflated. People close to you may sometimes ask you why you are not your usual self. Are you born with Gluten sensitivity, no really not. It can start affecting you out of nowhere so a gluten allergy is the last thing that people suspect.

Once you find out that you are sensitive to gluten, you may want to start on a gluten free diet as well as a dairy free diet. You have to think about what kind of ingredients may include gluten in the foods that you eat. Gluten is used in a lot of processed foods but simple foods like bagels, ketchup, and rye bread can also have gluten in it.

It becomes easier for you to identify foods that cause problems if you prepare a check list. Start planning about replacing your diet with new foods as you go through the checklist. After all, you may find that most of your diet consists of gluten foods and you will have nothing to eat.

In the beginning, you should start by eliminating only some foods with gluten. you should replace your meals one by one until it is completely gluten free by doing some research. There are foods that do not contain gluten in it like potatoes, rice and corn so you can start there.

The best way to come up with a list of foods that are gluten free is to buy a gluten free diet cookbook. To help you succeed in the transition to a dairy free and gluten free diet, look for a cookbook that has recipes for meat-eaters, organic food eaters and vegans.

You may also want to look for a cookbook with recipes with a low glycemic index if you have a problem with diabetes. To allow you to change your diet without limiting yourself from delicious foods and meals, the best thing would be to buy a cookbook. So I urge you to take the leap and buy a cookbook as soon as possible.

Diet and Options for a Healthy Body

Gluten Free Diet

A gluten free diet is used for people that cannot tolerate glutens (which is a part of some grains including rye, wheat, and barley).  Some people are allergic to glutens others have a condition that could become worse from eating foods that have glutens.  These people will engage in a gluten free diet in order to avoid being sick.  One such disorder is Celiac Disease, when glutens are eaten the body fights back with intestinal symptoms causing discomfort.  On a gluten free diet one should avoid grains that contain glutens.  Talk to your doctor or dietician to see if a gluten free diet is appropriate for you.

Natural Products

Natural products are items that are made from nature.  One can find what is in a natural product around the world.  Oftentimes plants or animals are used to make the product natural.  Natural does not always mean organic.  Organic for the most part does not use chemicals but natural could use chemicals on a product because the chemicals are found in nature.  Natural food is not always a healthy alternative.  As meat could be natural and can also be a source of high cholesterol.

Organic Products

Organic products are similar to natural products as they do not use anything that is not from nature or derived synthetically.  Organic products differ as they usually do not use chemicals to help plants and animals grow.  Although sometimes organic products do use chemicals in order to help their crops thrive.  In terms of animals, the animals are not fed medicine or hormones, which differ greatly from other livestock practices that are not organic.  Oftentimes for livestock and plants to be considered organic, they must not have any genetic engineering.   Organic might be a healthier alternative but that is not always the case.

Nutritional Supplements

Nutritional supplements come in a variety of forms.  One can take a multi-vitamin to get all their nutrition for the day or can take special supplements based on health conditions and supplement deficiencies in the body.   One should not wait until they “need” a vitamin but should start taking vitamins on a daily basis as a preventative measure.  Vitamins can keep one healthy and able to do what they need to do in their daily lives.  It is oftentimes quite difficult to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals from our diet and this can be solved with the use of a supplement that provides for those deficiencies.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a natural mineral that is found on the periodic chart and within the earth.  Magnesium makes up a large part of the human body.  Magnesium is needed for some of the most basic biological functions like providing energy for the body and being part of genetic materials.  Since magnesium plays such an important role in the body, it is important to get it through dietary supplements or the food that is eaten.  Remember to ask your doctor if you need a supplement or magnesium for your health.

Medimanage.com – Ways to prevent Bloating

Abdominal bloating not only looks bad, but can cause physical discomfort as well. But, the good news is that you can avoid it pretty easily.

And before you understand how to avoid bloating, it is essential to know that bloating is not the same as extra pounds of stomach fat. In fact it is the temporary abdominal discomfort that arises as a result of various things including excessive stomach gas, excessive fat from food, food intolerance, indigestion etc.

Experts believe that these are the underlying causes of stomach bloating unless it is because of a medical condition, such as liver or heart disease, in which case a doctor must be consulted.

There are a few basic things you must keep in mind, when the next time you feel bloated and “out-of-mood”…….

  • First, get rid of Constipation

Bloating can be a result of too little fiber intake in the diet, not drinking enough liquids and low levels of physical activity. To avoid this, experts advice that you consume a fiber rich diet including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds. Also, drink plenty of fluids, at least 6-8 glasses a day and engage yourself in a physical activity for at least 30 minutes every day.

  • Don’t make presumptions about intolerance

Food allergies and intolerances can cause gas and bloating, but these need to be confirmed by your doctor. Many a times it so happens, that we presume that certain foodstuffs do not suit our body, based on certain one-off instances, when our body reacted differently to a certain food. But generalizing this is not correct.

In case of intolerance with certain foods, you can reduce the amount of the suspected food and/or eat it with other foods. For those who have an intolerance with wheat, opt for non-wheat grains such as barley, oats and rye or eat only gluten-free food products.

  • Be patient while you eat

Eating quickly and not chewing your food well, can cause air swallowing that in turn leads to bloating. The best thing to do is to go slow and enjoy your food. According to experts your meals should not last for less than 20 minutes. Also, it is advised that you do not combine your meal time with any other activity, for instance watching TV or playing computer games as this diverts the mind and your body cannot reap full benefits of the food. Also, keep in mind that digestion begins in the mouth, and you can decrease bloating just by chewing your food more.

  • Limit your intake of soft drinks

The fizz in carbonated drinks, like, Pepsi, Coke, Limca etc. including the “diet” ones, can cause gas to get trapped in your belly. To be on a safer side, you can try varieties with the plain water, something like, water flavored with lime can be a good bet. The other option is to lessen the intake of such drinks. So now, if you are taking fizzy drinks say once a day, take it to once a week. Iced teas (fizz free of course) can also help reduce bloat.

  • Get over the gum

Chewing gum can also lead to swallowing air, which can cause bloating. Get over the habit, and instead eat a healthy, high-fiber snack like fruit or even low fat popcorn.

  • Watch your sodium intake

When you are feeling bloated, it is better to avoid soda, chips and various other highly processed foods that may be high in sodium and low in fiber. This is because these foods retain water, which ultimately causes you to become even more bloated. Experts suggest that when buying processed foods, one should check for no more than 500 mg of sodium per serving in any product, or a total of 2,300 mg of sodium per day.

  • Beware of gas-forming foods

Cut back on vegetables that produce excess gas, these include cabbage, cauliflower, cucumbers, radishes, onions, melons, to name a few. But that doesn’t mean you must give up on these nutritious, high-fiber vegetables. Just work them into your diet slowly until your body adjusts to the compounds that can initially cause gas.To read more about Ways to prevent Bloating
