Infant Symptoms Of Autism – Signs And Symptoms Of Autism That Help You Identify The Condition In Patients

Infant Symptoms Of Autism

The main symptoms of autism are of the social and communicative nature, even though there are many more unusual behaviors and associated symptoms related to this psychological condition. Sufferers of autism tend never to share their own enjoyment with others and never share in the enjoyment of others. Even in their infant stages, when people make gestures and smiles at them, they never respond with that communal smile like babies often do. For a specialist in the profession, this is enough for an initial diagnosis, although some people think it is inconclusive.

Autistic children make poor eye contact if at all, and rarely ever imitate sounds made to them. And in addition to that, they do not make gestures of their own or respond to those of others. An autism patient will rarely ever point at anyone or anything, and like a stubborn cat, they would rather look everywhere else than at the object you are pointing to. They do not make friends very well, and neither connect with their parents, siblings or caregivers because they are not expressive of their own feelings and they are not sensitive to that of others. Infant Symptoms Of Autism

Most children with autism have significant delays in their ability to learn to speak, and there are several cases in which the patient actually never learns to speak at all. Plus, the fact that they don’t make gestures often also contributes to their inability to replace their ominously missing speech with signs and gesticulations. If they do speak, many times they tend to just repeat what you have spoken to them back at you in what you may think of as a parrot syndrome.

As a matter of fact, they could repeat whole parts of a movie, play or event to you verbatim as though they had some amazing ability, but then they could refuse to talk about anything else. Autistic patients tend to also misuse pronouns, often using the second person in conversation to refer to themselves, and as they age, they rarely ever lose this symptom even if other characteristics improve their perceptibly. Celiac disease help (stomach problems)?

Ive recently been diagnosed with celiac disease (allergy to gluten) in May. Im on a totally wheat/gluten free diet but Ive been having really bad stomach problems still. My GI doctor cant figure out what the hell is wrong with me! Its really starting to get annoying. I cant even eat anything because everything I eat doesn’t digest. Like you can literally see what I ate in the toilet after I go to the bathroom. Its totally disgusting and Im so sick of getting blood tests and giving stool samples. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is wrong with me? >=O

I agree with Tiggsy about going to celiac.com. Try a few days on a very nonchallenging diet that is easy to digest and give your digestive system a chance to rest.

Bananas, applesauce, rice — very bland soft things.

The other thing to add would be some yogurt with active cultures to make sure you have the good bacteria in your digestive system– Especially if you have had antibiotics for any reason.

The other thing to do, is make sure you aren’t getting any hidden gluten in your diet. Check the ingredients for wheat, rye, barley, malt, and oats. Also if you don’t know what something is or where it came from, be suspicious of it till you check it out.

gluten casein free diet autism
Do you think that the gluten & casein free diets really work?

Just looking for stories about whether it worked or didn’t work to help with autism or PDD. Did anyone try it with a picky eater?

Gluten free diets are necessary for Celiac disease where you lack the enzyme needed to help digest gluten, and as a result can get inflammation of the lining of the small intestine.

There is no good evidence that restricting gluten or casein has any role whatsoever in the treatment of autism or PDD. The cause of autism and PDD is unknown (it is NOT related to MMR vaccine or thimerosol preservative…that is definitive, ignore Jenny McCarthy). It may well turn out that nutrition plays a role in management, but the evidence is lacking.

EDIT Cindy M. Where did I claim to “know everything” and how was I mocking in my answer? I was simply stating a fact, the scientific evidence is lacking for the diets mentioned. Anecdotes are always interesting and inspiring, but they are not evidence of anything. The plural of anecdote is not data. It makes no difference at all whether I have an autistic child or not, because my personal experience would also be meaningless.

The reason we study these sorts of things with randomized double blind placebo controlled trials is that it controls for error and bias. Your friends child could have got better for reasons other than diet. Maybe people were paying more attention to her, maybe they were seeing things that were more subjective and driven by emotion, maybe maybe maybe. We don’t actually KNOW without looking at this in an objective way. We also don’t know if it may harm children.
It is simply an unproven speculation, not a fact.

Don’t take my word for it…here is one (of many) reviews on dietary supplements done by the world famous, highly respected Cochrane Collaberation. They are an unbiased group of scientists who look at ALL the literature available, analyze it and put together all the data. This is THE gold standard for evidence based medicine.
